Information Technology Rules and Regulations of SJC

The IT Rules and Regulations are being introduced by the Information Technology Committee of the School Authority in order to regulate students on functionalizing the IT facilities provided by St. Joseph's College. All students are required to obey these Rules and Regulations.

    1. Rules and Regulations for the use of Computer Workstations within the School Campus

    1.1 - Students are forbidden to functionalize the computers that are dedicated for the use of Teachers at any circumstances.

    1.2 - All computers and IT Equipment within the classroom is solely for the use of Teachers/Staff for teaching purposes. The use of such equipment by students is strictly forbidden unless being permitted by teachers.

    1.3 - All Kiosks with the school campus as well as workstations within the Computer Rooms are designed for the use of students. However, the following items are strictly forbidden:

    • 1.3.1 - Playing Games;
    • 1.3.2 - Downloading illegal/forbidden files; (Illegal files are listed here)
    • 1.3.3 - Logging onto SJC-LAN (School Network) using Club Accounts / Personal Accounts which belongs to another student;
    • 1.3.4 - Installing Software / Changing or Attempting to change the system settings on the workstation;
    • 1.3.5 - Viewing and/or Downloading any obscene materials / web pages / files;
    • 1.3.6 - Causing physical damage or potential damage to computers and peripherals.


    1.4 - All failure of IT equipment should only be handled by the IT-Team and/or the School IT-Technicians. Students should report any disorder of IT equipment to IT-Prefects of their respective class. In case of emergency, please directly contact the IT-Technicians at the Multimedia Learning Centre (MMLC).

    1.5 - The Library Society manages computers within the School Library. Students are required to obey the Rules and Regulations setup by the Library Society when using those computers. Students are forbidden to functionalize the computer workstations beyond library opening hours.

    1.6 - Students who bring computers (including Laptops and Tablet PCs, but not including PDAs and Smartphones) back to school are required to obtain permission from teachers/ the IT-Team beforehand. Connecting any device to the School Network, either wired or wireless connection, is strictly prohibited except granting permission by the IT-Team and/or the IT Committee of the School Authority.

    2. Rules and Regulations for the usage of GreenAndWhite.NET

    2.1 - Activation of personal account on GreenAndWhite.NET and the use any GreenAndWhite.NET related services indicates that you agree and is willing to obey the Terms of Service of GreenAndWhite.NET. Failure to comply will result in account termination or punishment by the IT Committee of the School Authority. The Terms of Service of GreenAndWhite.NET is hosted here.

    2.2 - The Forums on GreenAndWhite.NET is dedicated to all SJC Students and Staff for mutual communication on the Internet. Students are required to obey the GreenAndWhite.NET Forum Rules when accessing the Forums. The Forum Rules of GreenAndWhite.NET could be accessed here

    2.3 - The GreenAndWhite.NET storage service (FTP/I: Drive) provided by the school aims to help students learn in a more effective and efficient way by storing files on school servers. However, students are required to obey the Rules and Regulations of Storage Services at anytime.

    2.4 The E-Mail service provided for students at school aims to enhance the communiation between students and teachers. Sending spam mails via school servers and/or spreading computer viruses/Trojans (or equivalent)/malicious scripts through the mail system are strictly prohibited. Offenders would be severely penalized by the School Authority, and the School has the definite right to initiate legal proceedings on the issue.

    3. Rules and Regulations regarding to Intranet Systems

    3.1 - SJC Intranet services (E-Class System / IT-School System) are introduced towards students to enhance the communicate with teachers and staff. All students are required to obey the following rules on the Intranet Mail System:

    • 3.1.1 - Personal attacks, slurs, and profanity are prohibited. In addition, mails must not contain pornographic items or foul languages.
    • 3.2 - No advertisements / commercial contents in any form are allowed.
    • 3.3 - Mail attachments must not contain the following:
      • 3.3.1 - Illegal / Unauthorised Software and/or Files
      • 3.3.2 - Cracks/Serial Numbers/Disk Images/BitTorrent Seed/MP3/AVI/WMA/WMV/MOV/RM/RAM/RMVB/MPG/MPEG (Audio/Video Files except WAV and MIDI)
      • 3.3.3 - Pornograpic / Obsence Related items
    • 3.4 - Sending and/or Forwarding spam mails is strictly forbidden.
    • 3.5 - Spreading computer virus/Trojans/malicious scripts (or equivalent) through the intranet mail system is strictly prohibited.


    4. Enforcement of the Information Technology Rules and Regulations

    Students are required to present their Student Identity Card upon request by the Head Prefect, the Executive Committee Members of the IT-Team or the Senior IT Prefects for inspection purposes when using the computers and/or IT Equipment within the School Campus. Students who failed/refused to do so would be sent to the Discipline Master directly.

    The Head Prefect of the Students' Union as well as the Team Leader of the Students' Information Technology Support Team (IT-Team) has the authority to send verbal warnings and/or issue warning letters to students who violates the above rules. Serious cases would be dealt by the Disclipline Master directly.

    Students/Clubs offending the Information Technology Rules would be penalized according to the seriousness of the case by the Information Technology Committee of the School Authority and/or the School Discipline Board. The Students' Information Technology Support Team would only be executing the decisions/punishments made by the IT Committee and/or the Discipline Board. The Discipline Master and the Form Disipline Teacher/ECAC Secretary (if applicable) would be informed when warnings and/or penalties has been issued or imposed.

    5. Appealing Procedures

    Offenders may raise their appeal against the punishment imposed by the School Authority / Discipline Board within 5 (Five) school days by sending an e-mail to the Students' Information Technology Support Team. The case would be reviewed by the Executive Committee of the IT-Team as well as the IT Committee of the School Authority within 5 (Five) school days. If the offender is not satisfied with the 1st appeal result, he may contact the teacher-in-charge of the Information Technology Commitee (Mr. K.K. Ip) or the Discipline Master (Mr. R. Ng) within 5 (five) school days. The judgment by the IT Committee or the Discipline Master should be final.


    The Students' Information Technology Support Team, the School Discipline Board and/or the Information Technology Committee of the School Authority has the right to make any appropriate amendments of these Rules and Regulations at any time without notifying users.
