Speed and velocity

Average Speed is defined as the actual distance travelled divided by the time taken.

Velocity is the rate of change of displacement.

Speed is a scalar and velocity is a vector.

The slope of a graph of displacement against time represents velocity.

Acceleration

Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity

The slope of a graph of velocity against time represents acceleration.

The area under such a graph represents distance

Equation for uniform acceleration

The above four equations are true only for constant acceleration.

Total distance moved = area I + area II
