Circular Motion

Uniform circular motion ( constant angular velocity )

  and            

Relation between v and ω : 

Centripetal acceleration

centripetal force experiment ,  

The direction of the acceleration is towards the centre O of the circle.

This acceleration is called centripetal acceleration.

Equation of motion of uniform circular motion

       

For uniform circular motion :

The direction of the external force is always at right angles to the direction of motion.

Method to solve problems concerned with uniform circular motion

1.      Draw a free body diagram

2.      Find out the net force acting on the object in the radial direction towards 

         the centre of the circle

3.      Apply Newton’s second law ( equation of motion ).

Vehicles going round bends and the conical pendulum :

At the top of the loop :

 

For non-uniform circular motion :
