F.1 orientation programme

• a three day programme aiming at introducing different aspects of school life to the F.1 students
• helping students to settle down quickly
• avoiding interrupting the normal lesson time after the opening of school

New teachers orientation programme

• a two day programme aiming at introducing the tradition and culture of the school to the new teachers
• explaining the school's vision and mission to the new teachers
• familiarizing the new teachers with the school structure and important information about the school

Service training programme for F.1 and F.3 students

• a communication workshop for F.1 students to help them to acquire the communication skills needed in conducting services to different target groups
• a service training workshop for F.3 students to help students to acquire the skills needed in conducting services

Integrated Humanities for F.1, F.2 and F.3

• designing the curriculum in such a way that students will be trained with skills to prepare them for the learning of Liberal Studies in Secondary Four

Student Learning Profile

• promote students' interest and involvement in school functions and activities outside the classroom and at the same time recording all their extra-curricular activities involvements, external achievements and academic performance
• induce in students the importance of self-evaluation for further improvement

Aesthetic Development

• Design & Technology course for F.1-3 students – Wednesday afternoon
• art workshops – Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings

IT development

• replacement of video projectors, classroom amplifiers, computers for classrooms/special rooms during the summer vacation to improve teaching and learning
• more e-learning software will be acquired through the QE Fund to improve school administration and teaching and learning

Moral and Civic Education Session

• assemblies and class periods conducted by the supervisor, the principal, teachers and guest speakers for all forms
• joint programme with the Department of Health for F.1-3 students to help student to have a better understanding of themselves

Teaching Chinese in Putonghua in F.2 and F.3

• Putonghua as MOI in Chinese for two classes of F.2 and F.3

Self-reading

• reinforcing the READ scheme to further promote and motivate students' interest in self-reading
• F.1 and 4 reading programme – incorporating self-reading lessons into the Chinese and English curriculum respectively
• reading and related activities like cross-curriculum projects, the Reading Buddies Scheme, book report competitions, book sharing and library visits

Interviewing teachers

• staff development with reference to teachers' staff-appraisal and self-evaluation reports
• Principal interviewing new teachers around early November and late May for their first two years in St. Joseph's to help them adapt to the school and spot their problems and areas that need assistance

Small Class Setting

• small class setting for English, Chinese, Mathematics and Liberal Studies for F.4 and F.5 students to address to learning diversity

Project Learning

• promoting cross-curricular Project Learning and at the same time developing students' skills in communicating and co-operating with others
• co-ordinating and systematizing whole school approach to project learning
• Personal, Social and Humanities Education to promote cross-curricular project learning for F.3 students
• setting up of the Brother Thomas Award by the OBA to provide students a chance to develop their public presentation skills

Class visits

• releasing teachers' workload for substitution
• promoting moral and civil education through a closer contact with students

Sister School Links

• strengthening our linkage with our three sister schools in Beijing and Shenzeng through joint school projects, exchange programmes and visits

Sports development

• maintaining the spirit of the students in sports training on a continuous year-long basis

Educational Study Trips

• study trips like the U.K. English Immersion Camp, the Beijing Putonghua Camp, the Business Studies Trip, the Travel & Tourism Studies Trip, the Chinese Culture Trip and the French Summer Camp will continue to be organized to give students global exposure and learning experiences outside Hong Kong

Mathematics/Physics Olympics and Olympiad in Informatics

• encouraging specially talented students to take part in the above three Olympiads to give them a chance to develop their potentials to the fullest

Youth Exchange Programmes

• encouraging students to participate in different exchange programmes to develop students into global, independent and intelligent learners

Junior Police Call

• inviting all F.1 students to become members of the Junior Police Call to train them to become self-disciplined and law abiding citizens

Summer Class

• Helping the PTA to arrange summer classes for repeaters and conditional promoters with the help of trained student teachers from HKIE to better prepare them for the following academic year

New Secondary School Curriculum

• organizing two streaming talks for F.3 parents and students to familiarize them with the NSS curriculum

Elder Academy Programme

• providing students a chance to serve the community by involving them in the programme

Student Support Scheme for F.1 & 2

• developing a good and closer relationship between students and their form/assistant form teachers
• providing a chance for form/assistant form teachers to understand their students better and to spot students' needs in advance

Students with Education Needs

• setting up a special committee to look after gifted students and students with educational needs
• sending teachers to attend basic courses, advanced courses and thematic courses to equip them with the skills and knowledge to help students with educational needs

Student Mentoring Scheme

• recruiting F.6 students to be mentors for F.1-5 students to help them with their study and personal problems

SJC Old Boys' Association Mentorship Scheme

• inviting successful old boys to mentor F.5, 6 and 7 students through job shadowing and sharing their work experiences
• increasing students' career awareness and reinforcing the link between classroom learning and work requirements
